The humble beginnings of Dr. Raymond Khattar - Founder

COMPANY HISTORY

The humble beginnings of Dr.. Raymond Khattar started from an indigent Lebanese family and aspired to rise from poverty. The family took the risks of leaving their motherland, the war-torn country of Lebanon, and ventured towards being migrant workers in Australia, exploring possible opportunities to earn a living.

Mr. Naim Khattar, the family’s patriarch, was a construction worker back in their homeland. He would often walk in the snowy highlands of Hutchet, Lebanon, traversing over 50 kilometers from his workplace and home and vice versa

In the 1960s, Mr. Naim was given the opportunity to work as a small-time contractor in Australia. His cousin, Mr. Raymond Khattar Sr., helped Mr. Naim to apply for a working visa. With a heavy heart, he took the chance and left his family behind to work as a migrant worker, and it took him 31 days to reach the country. Armed with hope and faith, he reached the country he hoped would bring out his family from living an unfortunate life, not knowing how to read, write, and even speak English. Through his cousin, he had shelter and gradually learned to manage construction sites in a foreign land.

Mr. Naim started building concrete houses, as it is his expertise. He would tirelessly shovel cement and mix it manually. With his impeccable dedication, perseverance, and undying performance at work, local contractors saw his potential as a diligent and trustworthy worker. They would continuously give him numerous local housing projects. Like an answered prayer, Mr. Naim saved enough money to apply for a work visa for his wife and a dependent visa for his children. Dr. Khattar was only a six-year-old boy when he stepped foot in Australia.

Mr. Khattar Sr. shared his small house with Mr. Naim’s family. However, a small house space wasn’t enough for a family of six, so they had to look for an available and affordable housing place. It was a challenge and all they could rent was a small shop. Nevertheless, Mr. Naim took it and transferred to the shop with his entire family, making it their sweet home for five years. Without enough space, their living room, bedroom, and kitchen were all in one location. They would use the space as a living room during the day and lay their mattresses at night. It was after five years Mr. Naim could buy a small house in Westmead, enough to make room for his family.

Mr. Naim continued to work and build local housing projects, and Dr. Khattar would often help his father during weekends through labor at the age of nine, while Mrs. Noura Khattar worked at a factory.

At the age of 15, Dr. Khattar started working after school hours as a bouncer and bodyguard in a disco in Parramatta named War and Peace and simultaneously also being a bodyguard in various nightclubs in Kings Cross. After his duty, he would come home at around 2 AM and sleep for a few hours to wake up again at 6 AM to help his father at work. During his spare time, Dr. Khattar would use it to become an amateur wrestler at the age of 15, a football player at Westlane High School turned a professional football player at the age of 17 years old. In 1978, Dr.. Khattar competed in the Commonwealth Games for wrestling and won a silver medal. In the 1980s, Dr. Khattar became a professional F1 Race Car Driver and a Jet Pilot.

Being exposed to the labor force at an early age, the young Dr. Khattar knows the value of money. Every dollar and cent counts. He would always give his earnings to his mother, adding up to provide further support for the family’s daily living expenses.
